Oro Hosted Christmas Peewee Tournament
Last Tuesday, as many people were still warm and snug in bed at 7am, Oro 1 and Thornton 1 peewee teams were on the ice for an early start in the 8-team, 12-game tourney. All three Oro Peewee local league teams participated and surprisingly avoided playing each other all day! Other teams attending included Bruce Peninsula, Lefroy, Durham and Thornton 2.
The final round featured 3 consolation games as well as the championship. Oro 3 defeated Bruce Peninsula 6-2 in Consolation 1. Drew scored twice and singles went to James, Logan, Carson and Brayden while Nick had a pair of assists. Oro 1 skated past Lefroy 4-1 in the 2nd Consolation. Logan had a pair while Josh and Quinn each chipped in with singles. Oro 2 blitzed Thornton 2 6-3 in the 3rd Consolation. Two players each had a pair of goals while one had a pair of assists and two others notched single goals. The Championship game featured the professional looking Durham Crusaders against Thornton 1. Despite a valiant effort from all of the Thornton players, the strength of the Crusaders prevailed as they coasted to a 4-0 victory.
Oro scouts assigned player of the game awards in each of the dozen games. In addition, the tournament featured a pizza box relay race, bake sale, prize raffle (including donated Colts tickets), 50/50 draw, puck toss, professional photographer, arena music/goalhorns, pizza lunch, plus awards and chocolate milk (courtesy of Rob and the Simcoe County Milk Producers) for all participants. Many Oro parents and a few students did a tremendous volunteer job in providing all of these supporting activities. Great thanks is extended to all of them as appreciation was expressed by many of the attendees.
