Divisions Offered by Oro Minor Hockey

Initiation Program (IP)

This program is an introduction to hockey for players who are 5 to 7 years of age.  IP players wear full hockey equipment and work on developing skating and stick handling skills.  For some this might be their first experience on skates and their focus will be on learning to skate. Others will be furthering their skating skills (starting, stopping, backwards, etc.).  Numerous coaches (parent volunteers) are on the ice to help with player's development. IP players are normally on the ice twice a week for 50 minutes each practice.  These times are usually on a Saturday and Sunday and can be between 7am to 11am start times.  Early start times are rotated through the younger hockey divisions.  The IP season starts Saturday October 14, 2017 thru end of March 2018.

Tyke

Tyke players are aged 6 to 7 who have experience with skating. If your child is not able to skate they should be registering for the IP program.  Players in this division are divided into different groups and work on furthering their skating skills and stick handling skills.  They will also be introduced to hockey positioning and rules.  Tyke players will be on the ice twice a week, once on Saturday and once on Sunday for the month of October and November.  Tyke's practice times usually range from 7 am to 11 am.  Early practice times are rotated through the younger hockey divisions.  A 14 game season against other centres starts early December. Tykes will maintain one practice a week in addition to the weekly games.  Days and times will vary depending on game schedule.  Season start date for 2017  is September 16th and the season will end on or before March 12th.
