THE BOOMERS..........RELOADED
After a blistering play off-season that saw some extreme highs (and a few lows), the Peewee Boomers decided it was time to take a well-deserved vacation down south.  Nothing like basking in the glory of a terrific season by the pool with plenty of cocktails and complimentary meals (breakfast) at the local diner.  “All Inclusive” could not be this nice!

On Friday the troops assembled at the Maple Lodge Hockey Festival for some “Pre-Noon” hockey goodness and the kids went out on the ice to pick up a sweet “come from behind” win.  The game was intense and with no checking our poor guys were lost for the first 8 minutes allowing the Wainfleet team to pop one in.  With just over 2 minutes to play in the First; Zack passed it to Trent who sent it back to “MAD DOG” and holy smokes a ripper from the blue line off of Shaunce’s stick sent a puck past the net minder at Mach 2! Ya baby!.

The Wainfleet team scored another one at some point during the game and it looked like the Boomers were going down…really?…ya right!…At 3:58 in the third with the game 2-1 for the other guys…Quinn feeds David who finds Trent in the slot and the sweet music of rubber on net!..TRENT BABY!!  Game tied! And Wainfleet is waining…Just under a minute later and Trent finds Quinn heading up the ice…a nice pass to Zack and he makes no mistake!  Kaboom!  3-2 and the Boomers are smoking!  Wainfleet is fleeting and less than 30 seconds later Daniel finds Justin who feeds Nick and Giddy Up smacks the insurance goal past the keeper!!  What a start to the vacation….4-2

We head back to the Resort for some pool time and some registration…After that we are back at the rink for game 2 of the day against Baltimore 2 team.

The Boomers were still back at the Hotel thinking about the festivus to come.  The team fought hard and eventually Quinn decided to put one in late in the Third to break the other team’s shut out.  Then we beat a hasty retreat to the Marriott for the real reason we were in Balmy Whitby!

Post Game:  Details are happily fuzzy but I know it went something like…..Serge passed to Brent who found the ice and set up Steve…GOAL!  Next Deb shot it to Rebecca who passed over to Heidi and….LOL….What a great time!

The Parents on this team rocked it!  Such fun!  If the season was longer I am sure there would be a spectacular amount of stuff happening!  About 23 coaches all assembled in one room with nothing but praise and admiration for the kids on this team!  A total glorious event!

The Kids went swimming and were watching Hockey on TV.  Coach Brent’s room was evidently the Popcorn palace and there were several great Watering Holes established!  The Hotel Staff were continually trying to shut us down but were no match for our powerful offence!  Later in the evening (or earlier in the morning) we retired and awaited the feast that would come to us in the morning.

Ouch!…no surprisingly not my head…my foot…kernel popcorn is so not a carpet!…Down for breakfast and what a good scoff, lots of treats to fill up the stomach and lots of tea and coffee to start the motor!  After Breakfast we headed out for a third and final game of the season.  WOW!

Game 3…The Aftermath..

After a hard core night of “given’er” the Boomers came out hard but had a equally talented foe called the Beeton Stingers.  Beeton scored one in the first but Josh raced the puck down and slipped a doozy past the goalie with 46 seconds left in the first!  Woo Hoo!!  Hailey (Quinn’s older sister) was taking pictures for the team and was up on the bench with Nick’s Dad, Jerry.  The ref told us that only coaches and those on the roster could be on the bench.  Sorry Jerry, but Hailey some how managed to stay up there…!

Ben was playing amazing and stopping lots of shots.  The defence of Greg, Daniel, Shaunce and Elora were keeping the puck out of the zone.  At some point the Sting of a goal put Beeton up 2-1 and they threw everything they had at the kids.  The Boomers stood their ground!   Sweet Goaltending; with amazing work by Zack, Trent, Justin, Josh, Quinn, David and Nick to keep the team alive! David got wrapped up in a play and the Beeton kid kneed him full on the side of the head (no penalty).  Despite the intense pain David skated to the bench and jumped off to allow Nick to get on the ice with out a “too many men” penalty!  What a trooper and he recovered quickly!

Oro was giving it a good effort and the time was peeling off the clock like a bad sunburn…man oh man …can they do it!!!…with 14 seconds on the clock Greg throws the “Hail Mary” off the boards with all he’s got, it rebounds out and Justin redirects it with his skate to a flying Zack…..whosh whoosh woosh go the blades and Zack catches the puck at full tilt just onside at the blue line ….KAPOW!!!!! a five hole smoker that sends the Boomers into a tizzy and has the Stinger’s coach balling and crying foul….What a way to end it!!!  What a terrific display of no quitting and sportsmanship!  Unbelievable!!!

Back to the rooms we go for more celebrations and 'live entertainment' (thanks Brent & Steve Bryson)  We all had a case of sore cheeks that happen to go along with extreme laughter conditions. This has been a total ripper of a season!  It just cannot get better…although there is a rumour of a pool and a party…”were gonna need a bigger bottle…er Boat..ya ..that’s it!”

 Go Oro Thunder Go!!!
