A Great Season for Oro Midget 1
As we wind down the 2012/13 minor hockey season, success is surely ORO MIDGET 1! The team opened the season with a disappointing 6-1 loss on home ice, but then posted an impressive 38-3-1 win/loss record over the remainder of the season. After finishing the season atop their division, Oro Midget 1 followed with first place in the “A” pool round robin series and then swept Stayner in three straight games to claim the league championship.

Not finished yet, the team participated in a 16 team end of March tournament hosted at the Recreation Centre in Innisfil. Playing a total of six closely contested games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Oro 1 closed the tournament with 2-1 victory over the Innisfil team to take the trophy. None of the Oro games at this tournament were decided by a margin of more than two goals. The stellar performance of our goalie Cole, with goals against average of just over 1.0 for the tournament, supported a strong team effort. Over the season, this team played in three local league tournaments against teams from all over southern Ontario and won all with an undefeated record.

Finishing first in a league of 20 teams is a tough feat. To do this two years in a row with the normal turnover on minor hockey rosters would be amazing. The coach behind the incredible 2012/13 season for Midget 1 was Rob Wright and he has now led an Oro midget team to first place finishes in the Georgian Bay Local League for four consecutive seasons. Congratulations Rob and thanks for a great season from all the players and parents.
