THUNDER ROLL INTO PLAYOFFS WITH A BOOM
Playoff Game #1
Saturday, January 17, 2015
Oro vs. Collingwood, 7-0 ORO

Saturday had the Thunder facing the Blackhawks in a matinee affair at the THUNDERDOME.  The boys were excited and roaring to get their playoff schedule started!

Going into any playoff series with strong goaltending is a huge relief for coaches and teammates.  And make no mistake...we have a star-quality goalie on our hands.  Jensen was rock solid all game long, poised and focused between the pipes.  When called upon, he stared down Blackhawk shooters with confidence and determination.  All of this led to his well-deserved and league-leading shut-out total!

Our offensive game today was led by our strong forwards.  Jack pumped the team up early and often with two awesome first period goals which excited the playoff fans and created momentum for teammates.  His hard work and forechecking led to some sweet helpers for his teammates.  Also, Noal and Jack were making smart, heads up feeds to one another all game long.  This chemistry produced two highlight goals for Noal.  Keep-up the magic, boys!

Our centremen were on fire today!  A trip to the emergency room for Number 7 the night before couldn’t hold him back from this game.  Devin was a force at both ends of the rink.  In our end he won numerous face-offs and provided great support to his wingers to allow for a quick and easy break out.  In Collingwood’s end his natural offensive instincts immediately took over and put his jersey number all over the game sheet, including a highlight wrister from the top of the circles.  Caden, our other crafty pivot, was working his offensive magic for himself and line mates.  Cade-o’s natural talents led to double digit shot totals, only to foiled by an excellent Collingwood goaltender who was out to play a game of catch today!

Sammy and Taylor were rocking it out all game long controlling the boards in our own end like seasoned pros!  By making smart, heads up plays in our own end they were able to quickly attack Collingwood defenders with tremendous speed.  Their natural speed and elusiveness left Collingwood defenders dazed and confused.  Taylor and Sammy’s combined efforts led to multiple point afternoons for each player.

Our selfless leaders at the blue line brigade were once again at the top of their game and were a key component of our first playoff win.  Without the efforts of Logan, Wesley, Nick and Owen, Collingwood could surely have stolen this first game.  These four boys are true team leaders and always have a “team first” attitude.  They understand their first priority is to protect and defend the home goal at all costs, and have never wavered in that commitment.  Coaches and Thunder forwards are so relieved to have you four there watching our backs, and you truly deserve the glory for our success!

With this positive start to our playoff run, we are heading to the International Silver Stick competition next weekend in Michigan with a motivated and determined squad!  Go Thunder!
