THUNDER HEAD TO THE HILLS
Georgian Bay Playoff Series
Game 2 – Oro vs. Dundalk
Saturday, February 21st
3-1, DUNDALK

The Thunder road trip continued on Saturday into the hills of Dundalk to face the Storm.  The home side has had a great season so the visiting Thunder were expecting a tough match.

The opening shift of the game had the Thunder immediately behind the eight ball as a seeing eye shot found its way to the back of our net.

The first period finished as it had started so quickly with the Thunder down a goal.  Both goalies made sure it stayed that way with excellent and timely saves.

The second opened with an emphasis on speed for Thunder players.  Excellent chances were generated by all players, including the defence who did an excellent job trapping pucks at the blueline and firing shots at the net.  Kudos must be given to the Storm goalie who played a marvellous game.

The second closed with the Thunder still down a goal.

As players gathered at the bench before the start of the 3rd, coaches asked the players to dig deep and find an extra gear for the final period.  As expected, the boys played with passion and grit but continuously came away empty handed despite great opportunities.  Midway through the third on a great rush by Dundalk, a Storm player found himself alone at the side of the net to tap in a nice feed from a teammate, pushing the lead to 2.

To our players’ credit the boys did not give up and continued to press the Storm net looking to get on the board.

With the clock at 5 minutes remaining some old time hockey put the visitors on the board.  Devin, with a face-off win to Noal, was able to send a shot towards the Dundalk goal.  Jack attacked the crease and forced the puck over the goal line to narrow the lead to 1 and create some momentum for the team.

As time ticked away, attempts were made without success.  With time nearly expired, the Storm snuck another into the Thunder net, making the final score 3-1.  While heading home disappointed with the result, we had little time to regroup as we were scheduled to play Midland the following day.
