Thunder finalists at the Elmvale Peewee Tournament!
Congratulations to the boys for their awesome performance at the Elmvale tournament. Despite some injuries and illnesses, they were able to play extremely well as a team and almost won the title but fell to a strong and physicial Port Perry Team.

Congrats to Noah C. for winning the best goalie award at the skills competition and Bayze M. for winning best forward. Kudos to Luke K. who finished second for the fastest skater and Jacob E. who finished third in puck handling just missing the final by 0.1 sec!

The Thunder started their Tournament with a 4-1 win against a very stingy Woodstock team. Oro controlled the pace for most of the game but the Navy Jets' goalie made some very tough saves to keep his team in the game. In the end Oro proved to be too strong. Luke had an impressive game with a hat trick in the third period alone!

The second game was a very tight one vs Port Perry. Port Perry took an early lead in the first but Oro came back to tie it before the end of the period. The scored remained 1-1 until late in the third when Port Perry took the lead on a PP. Despite 3 point blank saves by Ben, the Predators were able to get the puck to their open man who had an empty net to shoot at. Oro almost tied it in the last minute despite being SH. Final score was 2-1 Port Perry.

The third game of the tournament was against the best team in the tournament so far and Oro probably had their best game of the season. Backed up by some impressive saves by Noah, a tight defence and a balanced offence, Oro prevailed 3-0. Not to forget the incredible goal line save by Owen M. to preserve the shutout for Oro.

Oro advanced to the semi finals and faced a very Strong Listowel team but again, Oro played a determined game and after giving a 1-0 lead to Listowel, the Thunder responded right back and never looked back afterwards. That was another great team effort with great saves by Ben, a stingy defence and a strong offence. Oro won 4-1 and advanced to the finals.

In the finals, Oro met Port Perry again. The Predators came out strong and Oro had difficulties to keep pace with them for the first half of the game going down 3-0 after 2 periods. Oro came back strong in the third but the Port Perry goalie had an answer for every shot. One motto about this team this year is never give up and despite the score they never did. The boys continued to work hard and almost came back to tie the game but in the end they fell 4-2.

Considering that the boys played a Major Peewee team, they should be proud of they accomplishment and can leave this tournament with their heads held high!
