Strong Start to the Season!
The boys are coming together as a team and showing great effort and determination!

With the first month of the season under our belts the Atom AE team is showing a high level of determination as we come together as a team.
Over the weekend we played our first tournament in Kawartha against some tough competition.  Despite our record it was a great experience for the boys as we played against 3 "rep" teams.  The opposition played an aggressive, physical style of game our players weren't used to.  We were on our heels from the opening face off of the first game as we need to adjust to the play.  The game was much closer than the score, we just couldn't beat their goalie and had to settle with a 5-0 loss to start the day.
The second game had us up against another strong team and despite the game 1 adjustments we had a slow start.  Fortunately the team turned it around midway through the first period.  Notching our first goal of tournament helped relieved some of the pressure and team settled into a rhythm.  The game was back and forth and we were able to keep sustained pressure in the other teams end.  Unfortunately we came up short losing 4-2.
The final game had us playing the host Kawartha Coyotes who wanted to end their tournament on a winning note in their home arena.  It was an exciting game with lead changes and lots of chances at both ends.  Although the final score was 6-4 in Kawartha's favour it was a great team effort.
Lead by team Captain Owen F, assistants Noal K and Wes K as well as the savvy play of Brett G, Taylor M and strong goaltending from Graydon B the team really started to come together.  Defensively the team is very solid with Kieran L and Dan C using their smooth skating to get the team out of trouble.  Upfront we are getting timely scoring from Keith G and Owen S, big boys with big shots!  Newcomer Bradley L has shown himself to be a versatile forward who can skate and score and Blake B's transition from the wing to centre has been as smooth as his wit as he has stepped up his game big time.  Rounding out the forwards are Dylan F and Gavin B, both eager to stick their nose in, play hard and lead by example with a strong work ethic.
All the coaches are looking forward to a great season, keep up the good work!
