“WE ARE THUNDER!”
What is a Hockey Team?  Even OMHA is currently asking players to write an essay on What Being Part of a Team Means .........

The above summarizes the road that has lead this group to be a team.    15 Players brought together by the love of the game these 15 & 16 year old’s became fast friends/ lifelong teammates from day one.  This great group of kids with big hearts from 5 different organizations became one “ORO THUNDER MIDGETS”.

It is tough to be a newly formed team, joined together late in the season, playing teams that have played together for 11-12 seasons and that are in most cases 2 years older than most of the players on the team.  Tough does not stop this team, success in their hearts on and of the ice.  This season, this team, these players….. it was meant to be.

With fun and smiles on the ice it seemed that the season took forever to start.  Players, Coaches, Parents anxious with anticipation …the team looks good in practice how will they be in a game.  It wasn’t until Friday, October 13th that the 2017-2018 Oro Midget Rep Team took to the ice in Lincoln for its very first game.  9:05 am the midgets took to the ice - the Fleming Arena.

Whistle goes.  Game on.  In the first period Oro out shooting Lincoln 16 to 1 with first goal scored.  The end of the game showed at 31 shots to 10 with some near misses and goals called off.  Lincoln came back at the end of the game with hand to ankle weird bounce goal which ended the game in a 1-1 tie.  Great Job Boys!  Great Job Coaches!  Smiles by all!  The weekend ended with a team that was a team on and most of all off the ice.  They grew and learned each game this team became more than just teammates, more than just acquaintances, they became “a family” each and every one including an off ice challenge by one of the parents that gelled this group for ever.

Thanks to Chris it might have been a challenge loss but solidified everyone parents included as a team - a hockey family that first away weekend.

The Oro Midget Reps are now ½ way though regular season. They have had their ups and downs but not once has their commitment, their happiness or their drive to be successful waver along with so many ”hockey family” moments:
