Big Game in Downtown Guthrie
The two best teams in the GBTLL faced off Sunday morning for a critical, must win game.
It was "win and your in" and this was a highly contested game from the opening face-off.

Oro 2 came ready to play Sunday AM as we knew they would because this game had great implications for the Championship Final. From the opening puck drop they forechecked hard, put pressure on our D and backchecked with authority quelling numerous rushes up ice. We expected a few new wrinkles, and noticed some players having great games. William, Dawson and Ty stood out as did others... they were skating hard both ways breaking up attacks with clean, hard play.
Shorty took care of the chances we did create but our team never got frustrated...we know where there are chances the goals will soon come.
Oro 2 controlled the tempo in the first period but got a late penalty which opened the door for our potent powerplay
Fletch ,with helpers from Aidan and Cassie made a slick move to go back door backhand..very impressive hands and we felt fortunate to have the slim lead after 1.
The second period was very exciting and had some unique moments.
We told our team to keep working hard, headman the puck and they kept the pressure on. Oro 2 had a breakaway and a chance to knot it but Big O made the excellent save and after a wild scramble,Cappy was there to save the day with a great clear as the puck sat loose in the crease. TSN turning point right there.
Later Owen had equipment problems and didnt get the refs attention,so we were told we would get a two minute delay of game penalty, but elected to keep him on the bench and try a quick switcheroo. It was a confusing, nailbiting moment that could have swayed the game. Our boys won the faceoff and the danger was quickly over, but we all learned something and will be better prepared next time.
Aidan was playing a fantastic two way game once again and after a hard backcheck, got free to unleash his deadly shot to double the score.Nice helpers from Bo and Fast Eddie who once again passed the puck so well on the fly.
Oro 2's hard nosed play caught up with them mid second as another bodychecking  penalty  allowed us to march out the PP again. This time after much passing and retrieval Cappy and Caelan found Fletch who ripped one home.
Great job by our centers all day to win the pucks on faceoffs the vast majority of time.
Cappy finished the second period with another excellent chance and buried the marker for a more comfortable 4-0 lead.
Third saw Bo switch to center and some other adjustments, but the team smelled blood and kept up the attack.
Bo had many chances this game and was so shifty with the puck..he was finally rewarded with back to back goals  with assists to Colt,Fletch and Iceman.
We asked for more passing and saw some creative stuff....Aidan pulled up half boards and did a flip over the crease scrum to find Mark who nearly converted. Great imagination!
The D was so solid all game and Colt once again took care of the backend with stealth like determination. Caelan was strong on the puck, competing hard and making great reads,Cassie made a couple of big one on one stops and Ty was very dangerous from the point with numerous hard shots,a couple just missing post. Awesome work defense.
Evan was flat out flying this game and had one of his best of the year...and always looking to pass first unselfishly. Sky too was noticibly skating her hardest and thwarting rushes..great determination young lady.
Mark was his dependable two way self and came very close to getting yet another today...after bad luck three quarters of the season, the goals have really started to come for you big guy...congrats.
Aidan finished the scoring with another no chancer for Shorty and the final score was not indicative of the game..this was a close one.
Our team,as they have shown all season, will not be deterred no matter what the opposition brings, skating hard for three periods and capitalizing on most of their inevitable chances.
Very proud of our group today as they were told to bring it and they did.
Oro 2 should be buoyed by their play as well...they outhustled us first period and skated with us for half the match... with a few breaks it could have changed the outcome.
Looking forward to doing this over five come March 10
