Four years ago the Oro Minor Hockey Golf Tournament was resurrected and renamed as a Memorial for Jack McCullough. It was a great kick-off event to start the season, provided an opportunity to have some fun, and most importantly, raise money that could be used to help those less fortunate to play hockey as well as player development. Jack played hockey in Oro for much of his life, making great friends and learning the value of teamwork. He would be proud to know that he was a part of helping other kids to be given the chance to play hockey and to have these same opportunities.
As the tournament evolved we began looking for additional opportunities to give back to the membership and I am proud the announce the Jack McCullough Bursary! Going forward, Oro Minor Hockey will be using 25% of the tournament proceeds to fund the bursary. This year is extra special as there was also some magic during the 2019 tournament. One of our members, Zoe Watson, hit the shot of her life getting a hole in one! Not only was it a great shot, but it also happened to be on one of our prize holes! Zoe generously decided to donate $500 to the bursary. As a result, the total amount available this year is $2,500!
Oro Minor Hockey will be offering 2 prizes; a grand prize of $1,500 and a secondary prize of $1,000. To be considered, players are asked to write an essay about what hockey means to them and how it shaped the person they are today.
