Big D From Magoo- Oro Takes Two
Oro returned to their winning ways with hard skating, great passing victories over Elmvale and Penetang this week
Thunder took on Elmvale1 Tuesday and the top guns were firing bullseyes
The Mighty O got us on the scoreboard early playing catch with Chaser to bury his wicked shot
Then it was Doogie's turn
He performed a natural hat trick and was flying all over the ice this night..both ways
I found myself at times mesmerized by our pivot's mature game, never leaving the backchecking to others and setting up players time and time again for unbelievable chances
Owen wasted no time drilling home his second on a nice slot pass from Ty 2 on 1 and showing his terrific sniping abilities.
Chaser picked up the next on an individual effort with dangle/ drill finishing with a solid three point effort
Doogie finished the scoring with an apple to Eric.
Flash had great game rushing but also charging back into position when play broke up.
He and Hayden took coach's advice to heart using effective poke checks as the first line of defense one on one game long.
Hayden,he of newly minted Underarmour powers, used his Superman like reach to thwart oncoming Elmvale rushers with great precision.
That, and his heads up passing were on full display game long. Great work Supes!
Fast Eddie and Big Ben saw lots of ice this game and played very effectively.
Ben was a board monster and skating hard up the wing both ways while Eddie had so many great chances we lost count. He was a force up down his side, with a great rush from deep zone and driving the net, stick on ice wih excellent positioning. Keep it up lads!
Aidan had a standout game playing "third D".While he was kept off the scoreboard but for a single apple,he was commended on his playmaking and especially defensive awareness/hustle
The team played great as whole and rebounded nicely from the effort vs Midland
Final
Oro 7- Elmvale -0
Next up was Penetang on Saturday
The boys got right back to work with another tour de force.
Doogie got us started a minute in with a sweet finish after taking the pass from a rushing Magoo
This game however was Aidan's turn to light it up and he finished the game with a hatty and four points
A nice reward for his tireless work with apples distributed to Doog,Eddie,Magoo and Ty
None was prettier than Ty's beauty saucer pass to Aidan high slot which was corralled and ripped home in one motion
Ty and Magoo seem more and more comfortable with "the switch" each game, and both were standouts in this one.
Kudos to both boys for playing out of preferred position for what coach believes makes the team stronger at both slots. We will switch it around from time to time but as Coach Ian rightly says "you can never go wrong learning all positions" (But I will add except goalie..see my bruises after Sunday practice ;)
Ty is skating exceptionally hard up the wing on forecheck/backcheck with growing confidence and terrific heads up passing..which has garnered him a nice collection of primary assists this season.
Magoo is getting more touches on D and finding the groove we remember from 2 seasons ago when he was an absolute rock. He and Hayden are finding that old chemistry that worried opposing forwards game in and out.
Second period saw the Big M step in from the point and show off his wicked wrister that the Penetang goalie barely saw scream by top shelf.
A three point effort and player of the game honours...keep working hard Maguire!
Connor continued his below the radar steady D
There's an old saying that goes "the less you notice a defenseman the better he is."
Well that's not always the case, but Connor is every rushing D's best friend.
Always in proper backup position, thinking the game one move ahead, and throwing everything but the kitchen sink into each play. Just another shutdown defensive day at the office and not to be taken for granted.
Colt and his mates were all smiles this day.
It was so rewarding to see him lace 'em up and get back on the ice in full compete.
Harry and Eric completed the Defensive scoring onslaught... both with big rushes and finishes
While we love to see all this talent on display,we do have to remind all our players, D and F, the proper time to make singular rushes.
Only when "it's there".. and better "move it forward" plays aren't available
Strong teams can easily turn pucks over that go the other way quickly...so "last man back" always applys.
Something for the chalkboard next time around
Special note to Big Ben this game.
He was the one forward who consistently followed coach's directions on opposition zone faceoffs.
Sometimes the smallest details garner a big result....way to focus Ben
And the Justinator
He played solid goal in both games, was challenged with a couple of breakaways and big chances but was able to turn everything away earning both his league leading 7th shutout and GAA of under 1.00!!
Remarkable Justin.
Lets continue this exemplary play Thunder, for there will be a collision of equally powerful storm heads coming together in our new barn sometime early 2015
Final
Oro 9- Penetang 0
