The Mighty O Leads Thunder to V
Oro had the rare home game on the road at the visiting team's home barn
Confused?
Probably not as much as the paying customers, but the Thunder managed to pick up 2 points despite not playing our sharpest vs the Coldwater Wildcats
Told the boys post game I'm am happy to be finished with late night games as for whatever the reason,Oro1 seems to play and practice their best before the dinner hour...note to self for future scheduling!
We asked the boys to limit mental errors, make the smart heads up play and fewer individual efforts.
Down Ben Eddie and Jacob,we saw mixed results this night.
One player who brought his A from the opening faceoff was Owen who scored 14 seconds in!
Maguire who moved up to wing, broke down the left side and slid the puck to Owen whose snipe stands amongst the best in the league (unless he's shooting on coach..hmmm:)
1-0 and away we go.
Two minutes later and Harry found the puck on his stick at the point
His first attempt was properly blocked shin high by the Coldwater winger but it neatly came right back to Bigfoot who "released the Kraken" far low corner. A sharply aimed, nicely tippable shot that didn't need any.
Forty seconds later Eric took a nice pass from Chase who moved wide last second allowing Eric to drill it home
Eric's been playing strong offensive D of late and doing a good job getting back on offensive forays
Then it was Chaser's turn who went in two on one w Doogie. A sharp pass and Chase swung the puck to his backhand for a beautiful top shelfer.
First period 4-0 and the boys put it in cruise control
Cue the penalties, errors and sloppy play.
Told the boys we best focus stronger and heed the coach's messages going forward or that sweet donut on our record will soon vanish.
Chaser added a tally early second from O and Ty and that was it for second scoring
Into the third and we found ourselves down 5-3
The Roadrunner took the wheel and almost killed off half the penalty single handedly!
In a scene reminiscent of old teammate's Fletch's puck control last season's Final, Aidan ragged the puck spinning off Coldwater D and eating up valuable time...deep in their zone!
Coaches love efforts like this...doesn't make the scoresheet but trust me buddy, these highlights are not forgotten
Doogie drilled home the sixth goal on excellent puck movement/passes from Owen and Hayden
Hayden played a strong defensive game and made excellent saucer passes game long.
Supes again started the final goal of the night moving it to Doog who left a creative dropper to Owen for the big finish
Owen finished the night with 2g-2a and player of the game honours.
As I told him post game, it wasn't because of the points, but rather his great passes this night and hard two way play. I have also noticed Owen extra focussed on the face off dot of late, winning his lion's share of showdowns
A complete effort Mighty O...keep it rolling
While Justin didn't get overworked this night, you just know we'd have to let him stop a breakaway or two
Sure enough, with 6:15 on the clock he was forced to stare down a Coldwater center clear and unfettered
He tried deke but there was nothing there as Justin backed up, push butterflyed across and took everything away making it look easy
Trust me..it isn't.
But for Justin, another goose egg to bring his season total to an amazing 8...with 7 games to play!
So we'll take the V and get to practice Friday in preparation of our 2nd of 3 vs our Stayner rivals this Saturday
Bring the A game Thunder!!!
Final;
Oro 7- Coldwater 0
(ps ..thanks to Rhonda and Carly for Scorekeeping/Game Clock :)
