Oro Midget 1 December Tournaments
As we move into 2013, Oro Midget 1 is enjoying another successful season on the ice. The team is near the top of their league standings and finished well in two local tournaments during December.

Bewdley, on the southwest corner of Rice Lake hosted the team for a one day tournament on December 8. The team’s first match against Woodville was tied at mid game but three quick goals late in the second period enabled Oro to skate away with a 4-1 victory. The second game against Manvers unfolded in similar fashion as a strong second frame produced a 5-1 victory for Oro. Two victories put them into the final against the host team, Rice Lake and a good team effort by Oro produced a 5-1 victory to win the tournament.                                     The trophy!

On December 29, Oro Midget 1 participated in an 8 team tournament at the Beeton rink. This arena was unfamiliar to our players and the extra small ice surface was a new challenge for the Oro team. Despite the holiday season, most players were present and the team was able to ice three full lines. Three games were guaranteed but tournament format was such that it would take victories in both opening games to get to the “A” final. Oro scored early in their first game against Listowel and strong defence preserved a 2-0 lead for the victory. Game two matched Oro against the home team Beeton and was another close one as Oro emerged with a 2-1 victory. Also undefeated, TNT, a very fast skating team representing Alliston became Oro’s opponent for the “A” final. A well placed wrist shot from Chris late in the game beat a solid TNT goaltender and tied the game at 2 to produce overtime. Early in the overtime frame, a point shot from Cory beat the TNT goaltender and Oro Midget 1 claimed their second tournament championship of the month. Avery was also solid between the pipes for Oro and earned recognition as player of the game.
