INTENSITY RAMPS UP 2:1 !
In one of the most exciting games this play off season the Oro Thunder PeeWee 1 team matched skills and thrills with the Honeywood team. In regular season play the Oro Thunder did not get a chance to skate against Honeywood, it was a blockbuster night for hockey fans and the players!!
The stands were full (great to see) and the teams were buzzing with anticipation of the first play off game in the battle for PeeWee A division semi finals. Both teams came out hard pushing for the first goal and to find out what the other team was all about. Action was end to end with several great saves by Ben (The Wall) and it was the Oro Thunder that drew first blood on a sweet pass from Logan to David then to Josh. Josh put a very nice top shelf-far corner back hander in to ignite the crowd and pump up team confidence!
All the lines were rolling off the Oro Thunder bench and the game was in high speed. Honeywood put on the pressure and forced a puck between a very small gap in The Wall and the score was tied 1-1. Honeywood must have thought that less than a minute on the clock meant Gatorade time as a small defensive break down let a hard shot from Logan rebound out to a perfectly positioned Zack who potted his first play off goal with 10.3 seconds left on the clock in the first period.
The second and third periods were all about shut down and controlling the game. There were many electrifying moments at both ends with Ben standing on his head, batting away pucks and with the assistance of Daniel, keeping the puck just on the line for no goals. Logan, Trent, Daniel, Zack, Josh, Justin, David and Quinn were giving it everything they had to get the insurance goal but Honeywood kept the defence tight and a few missed/stopped shots kept the fans on the edges of their seats!
In the last few minutes of the game Shaunce and Elora battled fiercely to check Honeywood off the puck and clear the zone. Nick and Greg got out there to block shots and move the puck out of the zone. Honeywood took a tripping penalty with 1:33 left to play but they pulled the net minder and things got crazy!
With the crowd going wild and the Oro Thunder trapping, stopping, blocking and clearing every puck (and an almost empty netter!!) ....... the clock finally ran down!! The Oro Thunder PeeWees winning the game 2 to 1 over Honeywood.
PeeWee 1 team plays Honeywood again this weekend to continue in the race for 6 points and a chance to play for the Cup. Go Thunder Go!
