THE THUNDERDOME EXPLODES IN A STORM OF EMOTIONS LAST NIGHT!
THE BOOMERS GIVE UP A HARD FOUGHT BATTLE IN OVERTIME TYING UP THE SERIES 2-2

Just when you think this hockey series couldn’t get any more exciting...

Game 4 in the Series has been a problem child since the referees did not show up last Monday. After many schedule changes and some weather problems Game 4 was to finally take place on Oro’s well lit ice surface. Confused?... so are many… The emails poured in and the Oro team arrived on time in Oro all set to try and wrap up the series.

Today’s game was going to be a battle to the finish: Honeywood, facing elimination and The Oro Thunder trying to clinch a win and advance to the cup. There was a noticeable difference in Honeywood’s line up as they were without one of their strongest players. The Oro Thunder were also down Shaunce with previous concussion symptoms of earlier Honeywood battles.

Honeywood got off to a fast start in the first period and put one past Ben (the Wall) at 9:01. The Thunder regrouped and poured on the defence closing the doors on their zone. Capitalizing on Honeywood’s holding penalty, Daniel took a beautiful feed from Logan and scored the first Oro goal of the game at 5:08. The Oro fans went wild and the game was tied 1-1.

The second period action was intense and the players were finding their legs. At the 8:43 minute mark Zach sent the rubber into the Honeywood net in spectacular fashion! Daniel worked very hard to get the puck to Zach, who tucked it in from an impossible angle! The crowd was nuts as The Thunder took the lead for the first time in the game. The team played the game beautifully, making some amazing plays at the net trying to get the insurance goal. Trent and Josh were sprung on breakaways. The Defence, Gregory, Josh, Elora and Logan were shutting down big # 14 at any chance they could get. The Wall, was stopping so many shots on net and proving himself almost impenetrable. Shaunce (Mad Dog)’s presence was definitely missed out there as he had to nurse his concussion.

The Third period was crazy with excitement as the Thunder started the period up 2-1. Nick went slamming into the boards and gave the crowd a fright but he came back on fire and made a heroic drive at the Honeywood net but was denied. Justin was digging for the puck and put himself in the line of fire on many occasions and was with in a hair of getting the puck in the net. Quinn had a few beautiful plays at the net as well. David was working hard and the Thunder kept pressing for that third goal! What a fantastic team effort!

It looked like it was all coming to a wonderful ending with less than two minutes to play in the third. With 1:37 left on the clock, Honeywood scored a devastating tying goal. The Oro team tried to hard to rally it back before the end of the third period with a number of awesome shots at the Honeywood goalie but to no avail. The Buzzer sounded and the Coach rallied the troops for Overtime.

Talk about a nail biter, the AED unit was on hot standby and the crowd was bouncing! There were so many shots on the Honeywood goalie and the time was ticking away as the other teams were waiting for the ice surface. With just little more than two minutes left in the overtime period, Honeywood did the unthinkable and penetrated Oro’s defence and scored the winning goal. It was a crushing defeat as Oro had played so hard and so well.

The Series is now all tied up at 2-2. Both teams have 4 points out of 6

Tomorrow night, in Honeywood at 8:00 pm, is where this series may end for one of the teams. Despite injuries, Referee problems, snow days and scheduling conflicts the Oro Thunder keeps pounding and is set to go once more onto the frozen battle fields of Honeywood and vie for a chance at advancing to the Cup!!
