BOOMERS BURN DOWN HONEYWOOD'S BARN!!!
The Boomers burn down the Honeywood’s barn on their way to a 6-1 victory and now move on to the Championship Series for the Georgian Bay Triangle Local Peewee League A Division!!
The drive to Honeywood was finally clear and the sky was full of stars. It was as though even other galaxies were exited to watch this game and had cleared the path. The Oro Thunder was on a do or die mission and there would only be one team emerging from the ice surface with the taste of sweet victory theirs and theirs alone!
My texting fingers are worn to a nub just keeping up with the game reports from my wife on what was Peewee 1’s finest display of hockey since yesterday!! Many readers will know that the Thunder lost a heart breaker in Overtime yesterday evening in front of the home fans. There was no way that a trip to Honeywood was not going to bring out the best in a team that has played so well all season.
Logan figured that after yesterday’s game there must be some bad juju in his stick and began begging his father to replace it with something longer and more worthy of his playing ability. His Dad finally caved and produced what you will soon learn was the equivalent of Harry Potter’s Nimbus 2000!
First Period action began after a pump up speech from the coaching staff and the crowd was cheering with all they had. Honeywood was matching players’ line for line with the Thunder and the fast paced chess match was underway. Each team was playing smart hockey and keeping the game clean. There was too much at stake. The Boomers found their legs fast tonight and began picking away at the Honeywood defence. After 5 minutes of end to end hockey the Thunder came together and the passing was crisp and tape to tape. Quinn fed a beauty pass over to Logan and whoosh! The new shillelagh contacts the puck and sends it neatly into the mesh for the first goal! Thunder is up 1-0 and not done yet... Nick gets smoked at the boards and is down....but not out... Giddy Up is ready to go!
Only a couple minutes later, the smoke still drifting out of the new stick, Josh feeds Logan another beauty right on the money and CHA CHING! Logan cashes in for Goal #2 even after taking a hard hit into the boards. The Thunder are up 2-0!! Ya Baby!! Honeywood starts to become unravelled and looses focus...Justin feeds Daniel and Daniel zips it over to Logan...KA BOOM goes the magic wand and Logan pots his third of the game!! Oro is up 3-0 and Logan doesn’t need a hat for a while! Oro closes out the Period up 3-0.
Can you feel the excitement with these kids...they are on fire and Honeywood is the melting pot tonight!!
Second Period action...can it get any sweeter..we are in honey...you get the picture! The coach has moved Greg to forward and Logan has dropped back to “D”. All the lines are rolling and the Thunder is in sync. #14 (Goon) on Honeywood takes yet another penalty for Head Contact after trying to tear Daniel’s head off. The Thunder is not phased and carry out their game plan. Daniel takes a penalty just to show Honeywood that the box is not all that bad and away to the races goes the Penalty Kill unit. Moments later the Wonder Twins reactivate and Quinn feeds another one over to Logan and the new lumber smokes a beauty past a desperate Honeywood net minder. Oro is in complete control at this point leading 4-0 and you can just imagine the smoke starting on the roof of Honeywood’s barn! Nick is taking on all the hits he can. Shaunce is back in action and flying around with the puck in fine style! The passing is crisp and clean and Honeywood is now seeing magic on the ice. Greg is working the back check and floating between defence and forward. Elora is moving the puck out of the zone and Trent and David are starting the breakouts. Greg gets pinned to the boards but digs the puck out and gets a shot on net. Honeywood is now playing desperate hockey and is rewarded when they get one past Ben at 0:18 of the Second Period.
Rumour has it that Ben wanted to make it interesting.....
The Third Period starts and the Thunder find that extra gear...Over Drive...Justin feeds Logan and Logan zips it over to Daniel...Daniel works his own magic and KAZING...5-1 and only just over a minute into the third! David is hustling and having chances, the defence are clearing the zone. Honeywood’s goalie is flopping about in desperation trying to stop the rubber! The Thunder will not take their foot off the gas and the Coach is rolling out all the lines! Trent feeds a beauty to Logan and the Thunder Booms again! 6-1 with 8:47 left in the third. The roof is on FIRE in Honeywood! Zach just misses a pass from Logan and hustles after the puck. Honeywood is getting dirty and desperately trying to do something...anything...with the puck. The Oro crowd is united in chanting and cheering on their warriors!! Folks...it is truly a thing of beauty!
Time winds down and the Thunder jump for joy! What a game! What a series! WHAT A TEAM!!!
Oro Peewee 1 has taken the Honeywood series 6 points to 4 in the best of 5 games. The Boomers will advance to the finals and face Shelburne for the coveted Peewee GBTLL Cup!
The Coaches and Parents are extremely proud of the team and good luck in the Championship!
