BOOMERS RALLY IN THE THIRD TO TAKE THE GAME 2-1
A pound of Flesh… errr... a ton? The Thunder will have their work cut out for them to win this series. With the March Break in full swing and the Boomers down two men to the lure of vacation and relaxation, the depth of the team was tested last night in a crazy tilt in the town of Flesherton.

Flesherton is a fast team with good puck skills and there was no denying that the first game of the Championship Series was going to test the very fiber of each player on the Oro Thunder. The first game took place in Flesherton’s barn, a nice winding drive from Oro. The Puck dropped at 8:15 pm for some prime time hockey action.

Flesherton was strong right off the get go- they knew how to play position and are on the puck like bees on honey. Oro stayed in the battles and kept pressure on Flesherton. Logan was able to break past the defense and got off a quick shot on net. Flesherton jotted down his number and it was man on man after that. Despite some other attempts at making a rush Logan was being shut down by two or three Flesherton players.

At 6:02 the puck went in and around the boards, Flesherton picked it up and put it on the Wall. The whistle went and the puck dribbled in…or the puck dribbled in and the whistle went…..very close and Flesherton is awarded the trickler. 1-0 for the Home team. To keep Ben on his toes, Nick threw a nice shot on him and Ben took the practice shot all in stride and made a nice save. At 2:33 Nick was smashed into the boards and Trainer was out on the ice to check him out, however, Nick was just resting and was able to continue the play.

Logan had a few more chances in the Flesherton zone but was denied. The magic wand was not casting it spell in the offensive zone , but Shaunce, Elora and Nick were holding tough on defense and the period ended 1-0 for Flesherton.

The Second period started and Justin was making some awesome plays at the Flesherton net, the puck just refused to stay on his stick for the big shot! At 4:36 Flesherton was buzzing for the insurance goal and Daniel stepped into one of them for a boarding call. The Thunder killed the penalty and then a ghost tripped another Flesherton player and Logan went to feel shame in the box. The Refs tried to even things up and at 1:06 of the second Flesherton took an interference call. The game was fast and furious and Oro had still not found their legs. Ben was keeping Oro in it and stopping all the shots Flesherton threw at him. The second period ended with Flesherton fighting for that elusive goal and put the game out of reach. Oro was shaking out the cob webs and hanging in. 1-0 was the score at the end of two…Ugh!

The Oro team needed to reach deep to get on top of these Flesherton players. The coach gave them a booster speech and it was do or die time!

At the start of the third, Quinn picked up the puck and raced for the Flesheton net…TWEET! Offside…Oro fans were pulling at their hair and biting their nails…Greg was working hard as a forward and had a couple chances at the net but was unable to unleash the fury. Nick pounded one at the goalie but was denied…Oro was picking up the pace. The Flesherton Goalie had definitely read Ben’s new Book “The Wall and How to be One” and things were beginning to look bleak. Then at 10:03 of the Third the TSN turning point : Elora fed a pass to Daniel and with a sweet wrap around the Flesherton goalie was dismayed to see the puck fly into his net and the Oro Thunder crowd were on their feet! Game tied 1-1 and a sweet voice from the crowd yelled “Oro is back in it to win it!!!”

At this point Flesherton showed the reasons why they are a high penalty club…Slashing was the call with 7:14 left in the third and Oro was on its second Power Play. Wasting little time, Quinn and Daniel sprang into action and at 6:28 with a scramble at the net it was Daniel, no Quinn, no Daniel …no Quinn…Ultimately Daniel was credited with his second goal on a assist from Quinn but most importantly Oro was in the lead for the first time in the game and had knocked the wind out of Flesherton’s sails…however, with all the excitement: Oro took a “too many men” penalty and visions of that fateful Boston/ Montreal tilt flashed up …you know…the one where Don Cherry is making those gestures on the bench after a too many men and Lafleur ties it… digressing…Justin was serving the minor as Flesherton decided to pour on the steam and throw everything they could at Oro. Flesherton was pouring it on and moving the puck well. Ben was standing on his head stopping the rubber time after time. The Oro Defence of Shaunce , Elora, Nick and Logan were dumping the puck and holding the zone. The forwards, Zack , Greg, Daniel, Quinn, Justin and Trent were back checking and fighting to keep the puck away from the Oro net. With just 0:56.3 to play Flesherton called a time out…the net was empty and it was going to be a fight to the finish! Greg almost put one in to bury the game and so did Nick, but a desperate Flesherton team never gave up and as the clock wound down the Thunder realized that the gaulntlet had been thrown…this was going to be another hard fought series! The buzzer blew with the score clock reading 2-1 for the visiting Oro Thunder!

What a game! The Oro Thunder rallied back from a one goal deficit to take a series lead 1-0 and grab 2 points in the race to 6!

Way to hang in there Boomers! The series continues Friday March at 7:30 pm. Come out and cheer on the Oro Thunder Peewee 1 !!

it pains me to be missing this....
