Tough test over the weekend.
Back to back games against Stayner proved to be the toughest test for the team so far this season.
Coming into the weekend the team knew we had our hands full with both Stayner teams. Stayner remains the teams to beat as both teams were undefeated heading into the weekend. Unfortunately Saturday night we came out flat and found ourselves down early and the deficit proved to much to overcome. Despite announcing our team leaders; Captain Calean G and assistants Troy V and Owen L were unable to rally the troops. However, not all was lost as the team slowly improved over the course of the game and Graydon B played great in net and Will G scored the loan marker for the home team setting the stage for a Sunday match up with Stayner #2.
Sunday proved to be a barn burner. The team came out ready to play and kept pace with Stayner and playing perhaps his best game, Graydon proved unbeatable through 2 periods as the teams were tied 0-0. In the 3rd period Oro took the lead on a beautiful backhand shot by Will G that found the top corner behind the Stayner goalie. The lead was short lived as Stayner finally beat Graydon B on a breakaway. Not to be outdone Will continued his excellent offensive output scoring on a breakaway of his own. Stayner started pouring on the pressure taking to play to Oro but the boys pulled together to defend the lead. Stayner was not to be denied and proved why they haven't lost yet this year, tying the game at 2 with less than 5 minutes left. Back and forth play would deliver the decisive goal and the game ended in a tie. It was a great game for everyone; Alfie B, Sam F and Jordan H were strong on defence and the Killer B's line played great 2 way hockey.
Definitely a great game to build on!
